The World is Harsh

…even for beautiful things.  Or perhaps especially for them. This eastern tiger swallowtail butterfly was haggard and torn, looking a bit like a kite that tried to fly during a hurricane.  It’s likely that she was nearing the end of her life; a butterfly’s time in the sun is, after all, fleeting.
