I was fortunate to receive an invitation to visit Wilkes University’s campus a couple of weeks back, right at the height of cherry blossom season. Wilkes is an urban campus, set along several city blocks near the Susquehanna River in downtown Wilkes-Barre, PA – but despite it’s setting, it maintains a fair amount of green space around its buildings, as well as a delightful assortment of trees.
We arrived at 6pm, at the start of the evening’s “golden light” period. Conditions were perfect – a blue sky with friendly clouds, incredible evening light from a low angle, and everything in full bloom. We walked the campus, taking advantage of images as I saw them, without anything particular in mind. That kind of free-form, explorative photography can be liberating – and at times, daunting – and it really worked out in this instance.
I was working with the OM-5 + Lumix 12-35mm II combo, with a circular polarizer. While I am by no means an architectural photographer, I enjoyed the change of content and working with a new space and subjects!
