A Lucky Capture

A lucky capture while kayaking this summer – it’s a heavy crop, but still a reasonably good photo of a juvenile bald eagle.  There was plenty of eagle activity at the lake that morning, which is unsurprising considering they have a nest in a tall pine, which is maddeningly hidden from view while on the lake.  But the adults often perch in the top branches, and I saw at least two other eagles as I paddled…mostly as I’d come around a bend in the shoreline to find them already flying away.

This individual was going overhead at a higher altitude, and I was able to capture the one good frame before he was nothing but tail feathers.
