A mid-September paddle at Lackawanna State Park resulted in a welcome encounter with a flock of Killdeer along a muddy sandbar, near where the East Branch of Tunkhannock Creek flows into the lake. Killdeer are a long-time favorite if mine, but are skittish, almost always hovering just a few feet farther away that would be ideal. This group was no different, shying away from the kayak as it drifted against the mud. Although one individual did grow brave and pass directly in front of me, keeping a wary eye on me the whole time.
The sunrise was still behind the trees, so these were high ISO shots, but modern software does wonders for removing noise from the images. Shot with the Lumix 100-300, for its portability in the kayak.
