Cedar Waxwing

Encounters with cedar waxwings are always uplifting.  They are one of the first bird species I had the opportunity to work with as a burgeoning wildlife photographer, which earned them favored status with me.

Waxwings are gregarious, rarely appearing alone but more often in small flocks.  They appear to enjoy each other’s company and interact with one another.  Their antics are both graceful and entertaining as they swoop to capture insects, or toss back berries they have found.

Sadly, I don’t come across them as often as I used to in the field.  But when the opportunity does present itself, I always try to capture a few frames!
