In the Poconos at the end of autumn, I paid Lacawac Sanctuary a visit. It’s only the past two years that I’ve been visiting Lacawac, which is a shame, because it’s a always a good visit – the trails are enjoyable and offer great diversity, the lake is picturesque, and the resident nesting Osprey often put in an appearance.
The Lakeside Trail starts at the old lakefront patio and winds around the northern shore, all the way to the far back side where it dead ends. It’s neither especially long or difficult, passing mainly through hemlock forest with scattered hardwoods. There are a few good views of the lake, otherwise the main draw is the forest itself, which is fairly open.
The afternoon light was already getting long as I reached the end and started back, painting splashes on the trees, which was ideal for my purposes.
