A little over a year ago I made a brief trip to Vermont, and revisited an often-visited favorite spot, Lefferts Pond, in Chittenden.
Pond is misleading, as Lefferts has the size of a small lake, extending out of a large marsh. It is shallow and muddy across its entirety, and in the past I have seen moose walk out into the center to graze on the aquatic plants.
It sits adjacent to the Chittenden Reservoir, and is connected by at least two outflow creeks. Together, these two bodies are popular with locals for fishing, kayaking, swimming, and hiking. Of course, in the early morning hours when I prefer to visit, I usually have the entire place to myself, save for the wildlife.
On this visit, morning fog gave way to a hazy day, which isn’t unusual for August in New England. I walked the trail between the Pond and the Reservoir, making images as scenes presented themselves, but mostly just enjoying the opportunity to be back out among the trees and mountains.
