Late summer is mantis season, where any of the young who survived their vulnerable early months have reached their full-grown size. As adults, mantises are top predators in the insect world – although they are still at risk from birds and some mammals. This individual took up residence in my oregano patch last summer, and remained there for several weeks until she found a mate and laid her eggs.
