Oh, to be a turtle basking in the sun over still waters. It seems an idyllic existence, although as with all idylls, reality is far harsher.
I found this painted turtle while kayaking, and was able to capture a few quick shots before leaving him be. Most often, I catch sight of turtles as they are sliding back into the water – it takes very little to spook them, and they recognize boats of all kinds and rarely let one approach.
I didn’t want to disturb this one, so I got my shot and then set a course around him.
