A summer series from the Eales Preserve, richly green and vibrant. With the exception of the final image, this series was all photographed with a telephoto lens – actually, with a macro lens, which is certainly capable of capturing non-macro images when called upon.
The final shot was a swap to the 9mm wide-angle lens. While I like this particular image, with its anchoring trees and pathway leading the eye through the ferns, working with wide-angles is a challenge for me.
I “see” best in the telephoto range; the first 5 images all just work for my eye, and take advantage of the isolation and visual simplification that can come with a longer focal length.
Also, the photo of the scrub oak leaf just speaks to me. It’s simple, even minimalist. Just a play of light and shadow, tones and texture.
